The Directorate of Innovation, Sustainable Development, and Science Technology Park of Universitas Sumatera Utara (DIT.IPBKST.USU) held a coordination meeting with the Vice Rector III of Universitas Sumatera Utara as part of efforts to strengthen institutional synergy in developing the university’s strategic programs. The meeting became an important momentum to align policy directions, work programs, and activity development focused on innovation, sustainable development, strengthening student capacity, and developing a research-based entrepreneurial ecosystem within the university.
The coordination meeting took place in a productive and constructive atmosphere, discussing various priority programs to be implemented by DIT.IPBKST.USU in supporting the university’s vision and mission toward becoming a leading, innovative, and globally competitive higher education institution. The activity also served as a platform to strengthen cross-sector coordination so that all implemented programs can run in an integrated and effective manner while creating tangible impacts for the academic community and society.

During the discussion, DIT.IPBKST.USU presented several strategic agendas, including the development of research downstreaming and innovation programs, strengthening business incubation and student startups, increasing the capacity of assisted tenants, developing science and technology parks, and optimizing sustainable development programs aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, various strategic steps were discussed to encourage university research outcomes to be implemented concretely through collaboration with industry, government, and other strategic partners.

The Vice Rector III of Universitas Sumatera Utara provided direction regarding the importance of building strong synergy between innovation development and student development. This is intended so that students not only act as academic participants but also become agents of change capable of generating innovation, creativity, and solutions to various development challenges. The meeting also highlighted the importance of expanding collaborative opportunities for students to actively engage in entrepreneurship, applied research, community service, and the development of technology- and innovation-based startups.

The coordination meeting also discussed strengthening business incubation programs, which have become one of the main focuses of DIT.IPBKST.USU in supporting the emergence of young entrepreneurs and innovative startups within Universitas Sumatera Utara. Through mentoring programs, training, coaching, and facilitation of business and investment networks, DIT.IPBKST.USU is committed to creating a campus entrepreneurial ecosystem capable of producing outstanding tenants with strong competitiveness at national and international levels.

In addition, discussions were directed toward the development of science and technology parks as centers for research collaboration, innovation, and technology development that support the university’s transformation into a higher education institution that is adaptive to current developments. Strengthening the role of science and technology parks is expected to become a driving force in accelerating technology transfer, research commercialization, and innovation development that benefits industry and society.

DIT.IPBKST.USU also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting sustainable development agendas through various programs oriented toward strengthening the community economy, developing environmentally friendly innovations, empowering local resources, and improving quality of life through the utilization of science and technology.
