Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty Develops Innovation for Stunting Prevention Based on Intestinal Parasite Risk and Family Child-Rearing Practices
As part of their commitment to supporting public health development through research-based innovation, academics at the Universitas Sumatera Utara have introduced an innovation titled “Development of a Stunting Prevention System Based on Intestinal Parasite Risk and Family Child-Rearing Practices as a Decision Support Tool.”
This innovation was developed as a strategic effort to support stunting prevention through a more comprehensive and data-driven approach. The research highlights the importance of identifying risks related to intestinal parasites and family caregiving practices as factors influencing children’s growth and development, as well as overall public health conditions.
Through the developed decision support system, this research is expected to assist the decision-making process in stunting prevention efforts in a more effective, measurable, and targeted manner. Additionally, this innovation serves as a tangible contribution from the university in providing scientific solutions that can be directly implemented to address public health challenges.

The Directorate of Innovation, Sustainable Development, and Science and Technology Parks at the Universitas Sumatera Utara continues to promote the commercialization of research and innovation outcomes to ensure they have a broad impact, not only within the academic community but also on the health sector, government, and society.
This innovation development is also in line with the commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:
SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, through efforts to improve public health and prevent stunting.
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, through the strengthening of innovation and the development of research-based technology.
It is hoped that this research can serve as a strategic step in fostering sustainable innovation and strengthening the role of universities in generating relevant, practical, and impactful solutions for a more advanced Indonesia.
