The Directorate of Sustainable Development Innovation for Science and Technology Park of Universitas Sumatera Utara (DIT.IPBKST.USU) participated in the 2026 Institutional Incubator Ranking held on 18 May 2026 through stages of document review and institutional presentation. The activity was part of a national evaluation process aimed at measuring the quality, capacity, governance, and performance of incubator institutions in supporting innovation and technology-based entrepreneurship development within universities and research institutions.

Conducted via Zoom, the participation of DIT.IPBKST.USU in this ranking activity reflects its strong commitment to strengthening the innovation ecosystem and research commercialization at USU. Through this comprehensive evaluation process, incubator institutions are required to demonstrate institutional readiness, the effectiveness of tenant mentoring programs, business development strategies, partnership networks, and contributions to the growth of innovation-based startups and enterprises.
During the document review stage, the assessment team evaluated several key aspects reflecting the quality of incubator management. These included organizational governance, incubation programs, tenant mentoring systems, human resource development, program sustainability, achievements of assisted tenants, collaboration networks with industry and government partners, as well as the impact of incubation programs on economic and innovation development. All documents prepared by DIT.IPBKST.USU represented the institution’s various efforts and achievements in building a sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem.
In addition to the document review, the activity continued with an institutional presentation session, providing DIT.IPBKST.USU the opportunity to present its vision, mission, strategies, and flagship programs. During the presentation, the team highlighted initiatives in research- and technology-based tenant development, business mentoring programs, facilitation of research commercialization, entrepreneurship capacity building, and strengthening collaborations with strategic partners.

DIT.IPBKST.USU also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the transformation of research outcomes into innovative products with added value and tangible benefits for society. Through an integrated incubation approach, tenant startups receive not only business mentoring but also support in product development, business legality, financing access, marketing strategies, and industrial networking. These initiatives form part of broader efforts to create innovative startups and entrepreneurs capable of competing at both national and global levels.
The ranking activity also served as a moment of reflection and evaluation for DIT.IPBKST.USU in continuously improving the quality of incubation services. By participating in this assessment process, the incubator institution is expected to further develop into a professional, adaptive, and impactful center for innovation and entrepreneurship development that contributes to the advancement of science, technology, and the economy.

Through active participation in the 2026 Institutional Incubator Ranking, Direktorat Inovasi Pembangunan Berkelanjutan Kawasan Sains Teknologi Universitas Sumatera Utara hopes to strengthen its role as a driving force for innovation and research commercialization within Universitas Sumatera Utara. This activity also reflects the university’s commitment to supporting sustainable development through innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategic collaboration based on science and technology.
